New blog post from Joint Journeys, life with arthritis by Carrie: Overthinker

In her latest blog, Carrie shares the pros and cons of being an overthinker and how she plans to tackle the new year. Overthinking has been helpful to her at work, allowing her to think of all the possible ways a situation has evolved when it comes to helping patients. As a result, she can contribute to a unique solution to the problem at hand. When it comes to her personal life, Carrie admits that overthinking makes her unable to move forward with action – she either wants to do everything or bring everything.

Her “overthinker” trait carried over to the management of her rheumatoid arthritis. She remembered it was very hard to trust her health care providers in the beginning and not question their expertise, not ask a million questions before the treatments had a chance to work, and not to assume there would be lists and lists of options for medications and management options. It was very meaningful to be able to participate in the conversation about her care with her care team.

“What I'm taking forward with me into this next year is, to continue to remain rooted in the practice of reflection. And yet, not to just reflect, but to learn from and lean into the things I've learned about myself, my surroundings and what a beautiful thing it means to be human.” – Carrie
