Arthritis Consumer Experts (ACE) is pleased to launch its newest JointHealth™ Education course on lupus, designed to help people living with lupus better understand their disease and take an active role in their care.
Lupus can be complex. Symptoms can change over time and affect many parts of the body. People living with lupus may also have to navigate diagnosis, regular testing and monitoring, treatment decisions, fatigue and mental health, reproductive health, work and other challenges of daily life.
ACE developed JointHealthTM Education – Lupus based on findings from our National Survey on Lupus in Canada, which identified important gaps and challenges experienced by people living with lupus.
What will you learn?
The free, six-lesson course follows the lupus patient journey and provides practical, evidence-informed information on:
- Understanding lupus, symptoms and flares
- Diagnosis, blood and urine tests, and ongoing monitoring
- Treatment goals, medications and shared decision-making
- Managing fatigue, mental health, physical activity and other daily challenges
- Reproductive health, hormonal changes, sexual wellbeing, relationships and employment
- Access to care, reliable health information and self-advocacy
The new course provides understandable information and practical tools that can help people prepare for healthcare appointments, ask questions, understand their treatment choices and participate more confidently in decisions about their care.
Built around what people with lupus told us
ACE's national survey showed why this education is needed. Respondents reported barriers to accessing care, including long wait times, travel distance, cost and lack of specialists. The survey also identified challenges related to mental health, reproductive health and sexual wellbeing.
These patient experiences helped shape the course and ensure it addresses not only the medical aspects of lupus, but also the issues that affect people's everyday lives.
Learn at your own pace
Each lesson is designed in plain language so you can move through the course at your own pace and return to topics when you need them.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, have been living with lupus for years, or are supporting someone with lupus, JointHealthTM Education – Lupus, can help you build the knowledge and confidence to become a more active partner in care.
