Arthritis affects more than joints.
It affects sleep. Energy. Confidence. Relationships. Work. And for many people, it affects mental health. Research shows that people living with arthritis are significantly more likely to experience anxiety and depression than the general population. Yet many people who responded to ACE’s National Survey on Arthritis and Mental Health told us that mental health is not routinely discussed in clinical appointments.
Today, Arthritis Consumer Experts is launching a new online course designed to change that.
Introducing JointHealth™ Education: Arthritis and Mental Health
This comprehensive, evidence-based online course was developed to help people living with arthritis better understand the connection between arthritis and mental health and to provide practical strategies to strengthen emotional well-being.
The course includes:
- Six structured lessons you can complete at your own pace
- Coaching videos with practical, real-life guidance
- Evidence-based tools to recognize early warning signs of stress, anxiety, and depression
- Strategies for improving sleep, physical activity, nutrition, and stress management
- Guidance on when and how to seek professional mental health support
- Tools to build a long-term mental health care plan
Closed captioning is available, and lessons can be viewed anytime, from anywhere.
About JointHealth™ Education
Because each of us learn at a different pace and through different educational tools, JointHealth™ Education helps people with arthritis learn about their disease when it’s convenient for you, through lessons and “coaching” videos. After you complete each course, you gain access to other fact-based resources and communities, further supporting and empowering you to be better prepared to self-manage your disease in partnership with your rheumatologist, other arthritis trained health care professionals or family doctor.
Who should take this course?
Anyone living with arthritis. You do not need a diagnosis of depression or anxiety. You may simply want to better understand why certain periods feel heavier than others, or how to prevent stress from spiraling.
Family members and caregivers may also find the course helpful in understanding how arthritis can affect emotional well-being.
