In her latest blog post, Carrie shares her frustrating experience on the technical terrain of The Long Range Traverse in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador. Her adventure on this trail began with an orientation session with Parks Canada staff, where a thorough safety briefing was delivered, the suggested route presented, and tips regarding how to best navigate the trail were shared.
Despite advice from Parks Canada staff to stay put and wait if they encountered a storm, Carrie powered through and ended up adding mileage to their hike and got tangled and lost in endless tuckamore. Her struggles were a good reminder of the importance of listening to the wisdom of others, especially those who have been through something similar.
“I was really fascinated by the tuckamore, a truly remarkable phenomenon. I spent equal time thinking about my hike in Gros Morne; stubbornly pushing ahead, trying more than once to break through the impassible, knowing I would fail…when what I probably should have done was stop, rest, reset and begin again the next day.” - Carrie
