In this episode of Arthritis At Home, Ellen Wang, Programs Coordinator for Arthritis Consumer Experts, speaks to Dr. Deniz Bayraktar, physiotherapist and Associate Professor from Türkiye and Affiliate Scientist at Arthritis Research Canada (ARC). Ellen and Dr. Bayraktar have an insightful conversation about juvenile idiopathic arthritis including the seven sub-types and the regional differences in prevalence. Dr. Bayraktar shares some of the benefits and challenges associated with conducting international multisite research and the different research climates across the world.

About Dr. Deniz Bayraktar

Dr. Deniz Bayraktar is a physiotherapist by background and an Associate Professor at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University in Türkiye. He completed his PhD at Dokuz Eylul University in 2017, focusing on the effect of water-based exercises in juvenile idiopathic arthritis. He and his team are currently studying the effects of different exercise approaches in various childhood and adulthood rheumatic diseases. He is closely collaborating with EULAR, and with the Pediatric Rheumatology European Association (PReS). Dr. Bayraktar was a research trainee at Arthritis Research Canada from July 2023 to June 2024. In June 2024, he was appointed as an Affiliate Scientist of ARC. He also serves as the president of the Turkish Health Professionals in Rheumatology Association.
