Arthritis At Home 239 – Risk factors for cardiovascular disease and arthritis and tools to predict risk

In this episode of Arthritis At Home, Ellen Wang, Programs Coordinator for Arthritis Consumer Experts, speaks to Mr. Keith Colaco, Assistant Professor of Teaching at the University of Toronto. Besides teaching several courses, Keith is also involved in cardio-rheumatology research which is at the intersection of heart health and joint health. Keith and Ellen share an insightful conversation about some of the common risk factors for cardiovascular disease and arthritis and the tools that can be used to predict risk. They also touch on the role of advocacy by researchers, health care providers and patients.

About Mr. Keith Colaco

Keith Colaco earned his PhD from the Institute of Medical Science, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health & Society at the University of Toronto Scarborough. His research interests are focused on cardiovascular disease in adults with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. He collaborates with clinicians and scientists on research studies in the Cardio-Rheumatology Program at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto.

Keith is interested in enhancing career development and planning opportunities for undergraduate students and research trainees. Of note, he serves as the External Affairs Officer for the Canadian Arthritis Trainee Association and collaborates with external stakeholders to facilitate professional development of trainees across Canada.
