Hospitals across Canada are in need of guidance on the minimum re-testing intervals for lab tests. This need was identified by hospitals participating in CWC’s initiative “Using Labs Wisely”, a national consortium of hospitals committed to making a measurable impact on reducing low-value lab testing in Canada.
To support this work, CADTH and CWC are creating a panel (including a patient representative, clinicians, and lab experts) to review evidence and provide consensus guidance on the minimum re-testing intervals for pre-specified lab tests and patient populations. Evidence will include a literature review and hospital data.
They would also like to include patient perspectives about lab tests for the following:
- Hemoglobin A1c
- Lipid panel
- Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
- Antinuclear antibody (ANA)
- Serum protein electrophoresis (SPEP)
- Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP)
- Lipase
